This palette knife oil painting depicts Julia’s magnificent Angel Trumpet plant that can produce blooms up to a foot long and ten inches in diameter. In contrast to her watercolor paintings of plant life, she wanted to give her oil flowers a bold new presence, which we can see in their confident strokes and larger size. With the close cropping of the image, it is as if we are inside the plant with its enormous blooms hanging all around us.
